I've been sitting here at my computer for three hours this afternoon. Sitting and searching for a file.

What did I name that thing, anyway? I know I saved it after I got home from the party last night. There's bound to be a lot of typos, but I ALWAYS save my files.

Was it murderfive? Or mysteryfive? Maybe gun5? Surely not butler5?

If I can't find the outline for the fifth chapter, I'll never know who I intended to be the red herring suspect!

Life was simpler when I wrote in spiral notebooks.

I type in another search.

Nothing.

Hm. Maybe it was fivemystery? Or fifthoutline?

Try describing a spiral staircase without moving your hands.

If all spirals everywhere – springs, DNA molecules, new ferns in the forest – were pulled straight, how long would the universe become?

The easiest way to describe a spiral is with a visual gesture.

Does it seem like your life is repeating the same patterns over and over.

Well, it is. But each time the pattern repeats it's supposed to be more intense, or more fun, as you come recognize the pattern and learn how to work it.

(Ideally, before you die. But for some people it takes longer.)

So the circle of life is really a spiral. All we can influence is its speed and direction.

Spirals go down in circles, but withouot closing it. In a certain way, they have the typical form of dialectical process.
