Necessity is the mother of invention.

The act of finding out or inventing; contrivance or construction of that which has not before existed; as, the invention of logarithms; the invention of the art of printing.

We invent things because they were not previously in existence. It is the very nature of the human condition that we wonder what has not been wondered before and by the power of our thoughts and the conviction of our ideas we can bring about entirely new things.

In other words, we all love to tinker, toy with ideas and just plain make stuff up.

The opposite of invention is group amnesia. Once useful things, which no longer have any relevance may be forgotten, even by historians and archaeologists.

Some ask why there was a father of invention. Why not? we say everything else has a father, why not invention too?

Voltaire poohed any argument about the existence of God. If God does not exist, he reasoned, no matter – we would still invent Him.
